2022 Workshop Site

Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1021 Spaight Street, Madison, Wisconsin.
There is ample free parking in the lot adjacent to the church, and across the street if needed.

Two-Day Workshop Format

Handbell Week 2022 will again be a two-day workshop held on Thursday, August 4 and Friday, August 5 between the hours of 8:30am and 4:30pm each day.

Covid Safety (Subject to change if necessary)

  • Attendance is limited to thirty people to maintain social distancing of three feet between each participant in mass ringing and track rehearsals
  • Handbell Week is a mask friendly environment, feel free to wear a mask at any time and for any reason as you are comfortable
  • Unvaccinated participants are encouraged to wear a mask
  • All participants should bring a mask should the need arise
  • These Covid safety measures are subject to change if necessary should the pandemic situation require modification

Two Performance Tracks

Clinicians
Each track includes different music levels and selections. Mass rung selections are performed by ringers in both tracks. 
  • Track 1 (developing ringers/directors, level 2 and 3 music)
  • Track 2 (experienced ringers, intermediate/advanced handbell performance choir, level 3 and 4 music)

Ringing Position Assignments & Music 

  • Assigned ringing positions, based on ringer preferences as noted with registration
  • Workshop music will be mailed to participants in advance of the workshop

Lunch (not included in registration fee)

There will be no catered meal offered again this year. Although lunch is not included in the registration fee, there are multiple options available in close proximity to the church, including:
  • Bring your lunch (refrigeration and microwave available)
  • Leave the church during lunch to visit a local restaurant (fast-food and local options are available close to the church)
  • Daily ordered-out lunch on your own delivered to church
A lunch room space will be provided. Bottled water will be provided free at the event. Coffee and other beverages will not be provided, there is no soda machine, but local coffee shops, gas stations, and grocery stores are close to the church.

Activities for Recreation & Relaxation

Madison offers a wealth of opportunities for exploration and recreation, including many fine shops, restaurants, parks (Orton park is within close walking distance from the church) and hotels.

What to Bring

  • Comfortable mask should the need arise (see Covid Safety above)
  • Hand sanitizer and/or wipes for personal use if desired
  • Water bottle  (no water cooler will be provided as in past years, however, bottled water will be available throughout the event at no charge)
  • Personal snacks as desired
  • Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes
  • Bring a carpet square with a smooth backing to stand on if desired
  • Handbell gloves
  • Black 3-ring handbell notebook
  • Music riser
  • Please punch your music in advance if possible
  • There is no concert outfit requirement for the informal concert at the close of the workshop-family and friends are welcome to attend

When You Arrive

  • Workshop arrival begins at 8:00am on Thursday, August 4 (first session begins at 8:30am)
  • It is not necessary to check-in as there will be no registration table this year
  • There will be a greeter and signage as to locations for Track 1 and Track 2

Other Notes

  • All music will be mailed to participants in advance, any handouts will be distributed in rehearsal
  • The church sanctuary is air-conditioned and handicap accessible, however lower level classroom spaces are not air-conditioned
  • It is not necessary to bring any instruments or equipment unless specifically requested.
  • Closing concert attendance is limited to family and friends of participants

Workshop Updates

  • E-updates are sent as needed prior to the workshop
  • Once the workshop starts, announcements are made at the sessions
